CO2–extract of camomile is an oily pasty substance with odour of raw camomile, bitter to the taste. The colour is from light-brown to deep-brown (with green tint). The extract can be dissolved in alcohol or oils, but cannot in water. Extract of camomile contains complex of biologically active substances, mainly azulenes (chamazulene, etc), and also carotin, tocopherol, phytosterol, apigenin, coumarin-derivatives, flavon glycosides, essential oils, waxes, fatty acids, lipids, vitamins F, D.
Due to its plentiful chemical composition CO2–extract of camomile has antiinflammatory, antiseptic, epithelizing, granulating, antiallergenic, regenerating and restorative properties. Apigenin, apiin, and herniarin give to the extract antispasmodic and anodyne properties.
CO2–extract of camomile is used in medicine: as a remedy normalizing the functioning of bowels, sedative; in various cosmetic preparations: from care-cosmetic for babies to rejuvenescence cosmetic for aged. Also CO2–extract of camomile is widely used mixed with another CO2–extracts: in perfumery, cosmetics, household chemistry (toothpastes, creams, anti-scurf shampoos, massage oils).
