CO2–extract of milfoil is an oily deep-brown substance from liquid to pasty consistence, with odour of raw milfoil, bitter to the taste. The extract can be dissolved in alcohol or oils, but cannot in water. Extract of milfoil contains: lactone, carotinoids, tocopherol, vitamin K, resins, glycosides, tannin, essential oils (chamazulene, camphor, thujone, boras camphor, cineole), free fatty acids and acid residuals of esters (mainly polyunsaturated) - predominantly linoleic acid.
CO2–extract of milfoil has antiinflammatory, bactericidal, antiallergenic, wound-healing, sedative, styptic, anaesthetic properties.
Besides medicine, extract of milfoil is used in food industry (in liqueurs), in perfumery (in shampoos), in household chemistry (in insecticides).
