CO2–extract of origanum is a dense pasty brown (with green tint) liquid with strong odour of raw origanum. The extract can be dissolved in alcohol or oils, but cannot in water. Extract of origanum contains tannin, sitosterols, vitamins A, C, D, mineral salts and essential oils. The essential oils contains phenol (thymol and carvacrol), bicyclic and tricyclic sesquiterpenes, free alcohol and geranyl acetate.
Extract of origanum has antispasmodic, wound-healing and analgetic properties which are widely used in medicine.
Extract of origanum is used in food industry: at aromatizing of fruit jellies and jams, pickles and saltings, soft drinks (kvass) and tea-drinks, beer and liqueur. Also extract of origanum is widely used in cosmetic and perfumery industry: cosmetic creams, soaps, colognes and shampoos based on the extract of origanum have restorative and anti-inflammatory properties.
