CO2–extract of St. John's wort is an dense pasty brown liquid, bitterish and slightly astringent to the taste. The extract can be dissolved in alcohol or oils, but cannot in water. Extract of ziziphora contains flavonoids (rutin, quercimetin), vitamins A, C, F, P, PP, resinous and wax-like substances, isovaleric acid, and essential oils (cineole, myrcene, hypericin, terpenes, sesquiterpenes, tannin, and some esters).
Extract of St. John's wort contribute to rapid regeneration of soft tissue injuries, has astringent, antiseptic and antiinflammatory properties, strong antibacterial activity against staphylococcus and gram-positive microflora. Due to flavonoids extract of St. John's wort has antispasmodic influence on unstriped muscles of bile-duct, blood-vessels, and ureter. Hypericin (the main active principle of St. John's wort extract) is a catalyst of intracellular reactions, it increases absorption of ultra-violet rays by a skin.
Extract of St. John's wort is used in medicine: for healing of stomach ulcer, skin injuries (scald, ulcer, abscess, furuncle, mastitis), inflammations of nasopharynx; in cosmetics and chemistry: in dentifrice water and tooth-paste, after shave lotions and creams, sunburn creams; in liqueur.
