CO2–extract of ziziphora is an oily pasty deep-green liquid with a specific odour. The extract can be dissolved in alcohol or oils, but cannot in water. Extract of ziziphora contains glycosides, saponins, tannin, organic acids, resins, vitamin C, and essential oils (pulegone, menthol, phytoncides).
Due to phytoncides (natural vegetative antibiotics) extract of ziziphora has bactericidal properties. CO2–extract of ziziphora – based preparations has antiinflammatory properties and are used at gastritis. But the most popular using the extract of ziziphora is using it as antihypertensive, heart-pains eliminative, and tonic remedies. Phytoncides contained in CO2–extract of ziziphora facilitate persistent-wound recovery, and soothe a toothache. Scientific medicine uses oil of ziziphora with compresses and balsamic bath, and as an anodyne.
Besides medicine, CO2–extract of ziziphora is used in food industry (soft drinks, chewing gums, wines and sweets), and in perfumery industry.
