CO2–extract of wormwood is an oily brown (with green tint) substance from liquid to pasty consistence. The odour is concentrated, typical for raw wormwood; bitter to the taste. The extract can be dissolved in alcohol or oils, but cannot in water. Extract of wormwood contains: essential oils (thujyl alcohol, thujone, cadinene, phellandrene, β-caryophyllene), sesquiterpene lactone, glycoside absinthin, carotin, flavonoids, tannin, lignones, organic acid.
CO2–extract of wormwood has strong antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, restorative and also cardiostimulative properties.
Extract of wormwood is widely used in perfumery industry: in shampoos and massage oils; at manufacturing of wines and liqueurs, vegetable oils and margarines – as aromatizing addition, yet stimulating an appetite and digestion, normalizing gastric secretion; in medicine.
